SBDC Client Success Story - Gretchen Baxter

The Story

Mrs. Baxter was introduced to the Inland Empire SBDC in January of 2021, by attending the "How to Start a Business" seminar in Temecula. The client already had an S-corporation that she was using for her contract with religious institutions which was used to run their preschool programs, but she had to close the business down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The client wanted to start a new business as a parenting coach in order to continue to assist parents with behavioral problems with their children and to create a job for herself.

Assistance Provided

Nathaniel Quinn, Inland Empire SBDC Business Consultant, worked with the client by reviewing the different legal structures she could choose from sole proprietor to full corporation. The client wanted to keep her current S-Corp but did not want to use the name of it for her new business venture. The consultant explained how she can start a new business under the S-Corp by filing a DBA under it. The consultant walked the client through the filing of the FBN with Riverside County and the steps following that, such as applying for a city license. The client filed the FBN as Parenting Help Today and was able to successfully start her new business under her S-Corp. The client is moving forward now with building out her website and digital presence for the new business.

The Results

As a result of the services provided by the Inland Empire SBDC, the client was able to successfully start her business. Nathaniel assisted the client with licenses and permits. As a result, she was able to hire new employees.
